Museum Manager

Reporting to: Chair of Trustees and Trustee Board

Terms: 24 hours per week, initially 6-month contract

The 1950’s Era Museum in Denbigh is operated by the Cae Dai Trust who provide opportunities and support for members of the community who are affected by their mental Health, Learning Disabilities or who are socially disadvantaged.

Our Museum is located on the outskirts of Denbigh

Main purpose of Job

The Museum Manager oversees all aspects of the operation of the Museum, including Administration, Staff and Volunteer Management, Marketing and overseeing the community hall that is attached.

Main Duties

Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the museum and community hall.

Act as the key ambassador for the museum

Review, develop and implement policies for the governance and operation of the Museum in liaison with the trustees.

Responsible for daily and weekly reconciliation of all revenue collected at the Museum through admissions, sale of merchandise, and donations, and undertaking gift aid claims.

Be responsible for the museum team – both paid staff and volunteers, ensuring that the team are well supported.

Develop and maintain the inventory of artefacts.

Provide a monthly report to the Chair of Trustees on operational matters relating to the running of the Museum.

Provide reports for Trustee meetings and attend meetings as required

Promote the Museum through a variety of social media.

Manage the maintenance, cleanliness, security, and public, staff and volunteer safety (including safeguarding) of the building and grounds.

Maintain visitor statistics for governance reporting and strategic planning.

Contribute funding applications as required.

Oversee all aspects of collections management, preservation, conservation, and care.

Advise trustees on new collection opportunities.

Develop programs for disadvantaged groups and the community, initiated by the Museum or in collaboration with groups and institutions in the community and region.

Assist with programme management and delivery.

Knowledge

Knowledge and experience of health and safety issues with respect to managing a building or site

Budget monitoring, margins, budgets, and profit/loss

Fully understanding of their role in the context of safeguarding children, young people, and vulnerable adults

Community engagement and audience needs

Experience of supporting people who experience disability or mental health issues.

Knowledge of all areas of Museum operations, including administration, collections, exhibitions, and programmes.

Skills

Ability to lead inspire and motivate a team of staff and volunteers

Strong problem-solving skills
