Maintenance Engineering Manager

Full Time Permanent

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Maintenance Engineering Manager to join a large FMCG company based in North Wales.

Purpose of the Maintenance Engineering Manager role:

* Lead, manage and steer a team of 25 technicians and development engineers to develop and implement the Flint site strategy on asset management and care in-order to drive improvement in overall engineering performance – to support the operational and broader business requirements.In total, there are 16 manufacturing lines, with varied levels of automation and scale.

* Delivery world class performance in all aspects of the balanced scorecard (Safety, Quality, Service, Cost) Asset care and Employee Engagement.

* Manage a support service for the operation that achieves optimum performance and reliability of equipment, improves site resilience and delivers within agreed budgets

* Influence the capex agenda, specifically with regards to existing equipment and its development. Work in partnership with the Group Projects Manager and Operations Director to aide implementation

* Development of the maintenance team’s overall competence by assessment and then identification and development of training plan for the area and individuals. Identify and manage any areas of unsatisfactory performance


Develop a maintenance strategy that meets both the short and long term requirements of the business and operation, through the maximisation of both physical and human resources. To be developed whilst ensuring compliance at all times – Safety and Quality.


Spend 50% of time on shop floor and build relationships within the team and with broader stakeholders

The candidate:

* Degree level qualification in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Electrical Engineering

* Other technical qualifications may be suitable when accompanied with suitable engineering managerial experience within a FMCG Manufacturing/Packaging environment

* Chartered Engineering status would be an advantage but is not essential NEBOSH qualified

* A professional engineer with experience developed over a number of roles

* Proven technical ability to manage in a highly complex packaging environment, delivering practical solutions

* Delivery of maintenance best practice, manufacturing improvement and engineering project management

* Proven leadership capabilities. Ability to manage people performance, coaching and development of a multi-disciplined team of up to 25 people.

* Demonstrates great leadership to drive people performance to consistently deliver results.

* Sound and proven financial acumen.

* Proactive structured problem evaluation & solving skills learnt through exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, TPM or Manufacturing excellence.

* Proficient in use of standard business systems – MS Office.

For the Maintenance Engineering Manager role our client offers:

* Salary -Circa £60k

* Bonus – 10% annually based on operating profit targets

* Pension – 5% employee and 8% employer increasing to 9% after 5 years

* Holiday – 23 days plus statutory to start increasing to 25

* Life insurance – x 3 basic salary increasing to x 4 after 5 years
